From 24 November until 9th December, 1914, the 1st Shropshire Light Infantry battalion of 16 Brigade, 6th Division were in trenches at Flamingerie Farm, near Fleurbaix where their positions came under shell and sniper fire on a daily basis. Albert Gibbs died from wounds on 3rd December having been sent to a base hospital on the coast and it is likely that he was wounded during this period spent in the front line.
